The Heart of Mynoghra — Takuto, Atou, and the Founding Circle

At the center of the story sits Takuto, a selfless ruler who prioritizes others over himself and harbors a quiet crush on his companion Atou. He can forge a psychic link with his subordinates, and though the world's people see only a frightening cloud of dark smoke in human silhouette, his allies recognize a kind, gentle man. Atou, nicknamed Atou the sludge, leads his Eight Heroes and serves as his right hand. Beneath her albino-elf appearance lies a monstrous true form, and while she is a ruthless sadist on the battlefield, she is warm and emotionally supportive toward Takuto, with feelings of her own. Her combat toolkit includes regenerating dark appendages and the ability to pluck memories from targets. Rounding out the inner circle are Isla, a praying-mantis insect queen who acts as a mother figure; her adoptive daughters Maria and Caria; dark elf diplomat Emle; and the three Brain Eater bodyguards whose intimidating looks hide a comical side.

The Demon Lord, the Holy Kingdom, and a Web of Rivals

The antagonistic landscape is layered. At the apex sits the unnamed Demon Lord, the final boss of the classic game Brave Questus, who is hinted to be a reincarnated human much like Takuto. His four generals—Flamin, Ice Rock, Lady Wind, and Old Mechanic—each meet distinct fates: Flamin detonates himself to mortally wound Isla, leaving Maria and Caria to inherit her power by consuming her heart; Ice Rock falls to Atou; and the remaining two are dispatched by the twins. On the human side, the Holy Kingdom of Qualia sends knights Verdal, Lonius, and Bargo against Mynoghra, all three slain by Atou. Their leader, the saint Soalina, pursues the necromantic witch Erakino into the western regions and is killed by her. Erakino herself is suggested to be a reincarnated human with the unsettling ability to regenerate over time. The Demon Lord's ultimate end comes at the hands of an unidentified young man, also a reincarnate, closing the loop on the series' recurring theme of second chances.
